Many students who have never studied English composition before beginning their college English courses with the plan of writing persuasive essays. They spend countless hours practicing and writing essays that will convince a professor of their ability to write. The result is that they are often surprised to find that they do not really understand the difference between persuasive essays and persuasive arguments.
Every academic professor is likely to view the written work of an undergraduate as persuasive in the first place, but the difference between a persuasive essay and a persuasive argument is rather subtle. There are three main differences. All three of these differences apply to essay topics English II.
The thesis statement: When it comes to English II, a thesis statement is the most important part of the essay. A thesis statement states the central concept of the essay. The conclusion states what the student has learned.
